The H2O Centre is the largest city-owned facility of its kind in Canada. It features a 50-metre, eight-lane pool that meets international competition standards and an indoor water park with a river run, a wave pool, three water slides, a children’s water play area, and an ocean wave surf simulator.
The H2O Centre sets a new benchmark for water quality measures and environmentally sound practices for aquatic facilities. By investing in energy-efficient systems during construction, the facility now realizes a 60 percent savings in energy consumption (as compared to similarly sized conventional facilities). Water consumption is reduced with low-flow fixtures, infrared sensors, and decreased filter back-flushing.
As part of the Integrated Design Team (which included the owner, contractor, architect, engineers, end users, and cost consultant), PCL aligned comfortably with the project’s “good, better, best” philosophy, an approach that secured the best possible materials within the limited budget. Once design and pricing were finalized, PCL took on the responsibility of all design and construction services.
