Algonquin College’s new Athletics Recreation Complex (ARC) will bring students together for varsity athletics, fitness and recreation in one central location. The building will include two gymnasiums for varsity sports and the student body, a fitness facility, two-level indoor running track, bowling alley, areas for rock climbing and billiards, and a licensed lounge.
We will draw on our vast experience building postsecondary sports centers to deliver a recreational experience that increases capacity and fosters inclusivity – two of the college’s key drivers for this project. Our time and cost-saving value engineering solutions have included adjusting footing elevations and geometry to decrease excavation and backfill needs, working jointly with the design team to introduce cladding and window options and revising mechanical equipment to increase efficiency. 3D models are used to analyze the mechanical and electrical interfaces and identify clashes ahead of time, which allows for additional savings.
ARC is the latest of almost 30 projects PCL has completed for the college throughout our longstanding partnership, which includes the Student Commons Building and DARE District.
