In the fast-paced construction industry, Casey Corriveau never shies away from a challenge. She remains level-headed under pressure – especially during the high-intensity, down-to-the-wire moments of estimating.

As a credit to Casey’s leadership, the PCL Toronto senior estimator has been named to the 2022 Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) Championship Team.

Presented by the Toronto chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the initiative recognizes female-identified leaders and influencers in the Toronto region for their contributions to real estate development, land use and city building.

Let’s get to know Casey and her outstanding contributions to her industry. 

Winning work is a critical part of construction. Estimators like Casey are responsible for preparing bids and proposals to secure contracts. They also analyze the risks associated with a project, including related costs and schedule impacts, whether for the bid or during construction.

Casey has been pivotal in successful bids for and delivery of projects that make a positive difference in our communities. She expertly steers a wide range of contract types and understands the technical side of community-building projects, from hospitals to arenas.

She acknowledges that a project’s success is owned by all stakeholders and its overall success is because of each team member’s individual successes.

“Casey is skilled and dependable, earning the trust of her clients, stakeholders and colleagues,” says Jim Ferris, PCL Toronto senior manager of estimating services. “She always pushes her managers for the next career challenge and is determined to grow her ability to mentor others.”

Open and approachable, Casey takes the time to answer questions or provide guidance to others in the industry.

For the past year, Casey has participated in the ULI mentorship program as a mentor of a young person who is in the business development side of construction.

“I value the mentors I’ve had at PCL and recognize how they have pushed me in my career,” Casey says. “This has inspired me to take on a mentorship role in the industry, including for new or junior employees and students in our estimating department, with a focus on their training and development.”

Casey takes initiative to seek mentors from a variety of roles within PCL, such as construction managers, project managers and construction risk managers, to gain a wider exposure and new ways of thinking.

A member of PCL’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) team, Casey helps create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive space within PCL, the construction industry and our communities through community-involvement initiatives.

In working with not-for-profit organizations such as Techsploration and Build a Dream, Casey empowers young girls and shows them the career opportunities available in construction or other STEM-related fields.

She also leads DE&I initiatives at PCL that encourage and embrace individual opinions and contributions, such as an employee spotlight series and women’s networking events.

“Casey is a natural leader who is dedicated to the development and success of her projects and team members, making for a well-suited addition to the WLI Championship Team,” says Lisa Kurina, PCL Toronto operations manager and 2019 WLI Champion. “She strives to leave a positive impact on her community and deserves to join this network of other remarkable leaders.”
