Denver International Airport (DEN) welcomed a new fire station to support safety operations at the airport and in the surrounding community. It’s the first fire station on airport property dedicated to responding to public safety calls on landside properties, such as the radar control center, cell phone waiting lot, terminal and transit center.

The structure includes high-speed garage doors, hose drying towers and permeable pavers, but the project’s prized feature is its LEED Gold certification. The station is one of six LEED Gold certified stations in Colorado and only the second to achieve this certification in Denver. The station is 48% more efficient than the traditional fire station and is made of more than 50% Forest Stewardship Council certified wood. Other sustainable elements include native vegetation, heat-reflecting roofing and LED lighting systems with advanced lighting controls.
