Building a greenfield structure is no easy feat; it takes immense planning and expertise to bring it to life. New West Trucks Body Shop, owned by Stahl Investments Ltd., has entrusted PCL to create a 2,375 square meter pre-engineered structure with a vehicle storage yard. The newly built body shop is a showpiece project with multiple mechanic bays, a frame straightening rack, an alignment pit, paint booths, a wash bay and a parts bay. The structure also houses a spacious office area, training rooms, locker rooms, a shower room and a large lunchroom for employees.
For nearly two years prior to construction, PCL was hard at work providing valuable constructability input and budgets for a new building. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the building's design and purpose changed multiple times to meet the client's evolving needs.
Throughout this time, the team remained dedicated to the project and worked tirelessly to ensure its success. Regular coordination between the design team, pre-engineered designer/supplier and the trade contractor was crucial in making it all work.
Thanks to modern technology, our team implemented an innovative solution during the harsh winter season. We successfully monitored and controlled the frost fighters' temporary heating equipment remotely using innovative web-based software. This allowed us to regulate heater output to maintain the correct hoarding and in-slab concrete temperatures. With this advanced system in place, we were able to optimize our monitoring and ensure that our project was completed to the highest standards.
The use of advanced tools did not end there — we also used StructionSite 360 (since integrated into DroneDeploy). With this efficient digital software, we transformed our job site into a fully immersive digital experience that allowed us to track progress, identify potential issues and collaborate more productively than ever.
To complete the project's final phase within an accelerated schedule requested by the client, our team worked diligently to prioritize critical path scopes and sequencing and was proud to deliver a completed project in November 2023, as promised.
