The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is a national museum housing an aviation collection, educational and conference spaces. The 86,000-square-foot building is the size of a Canadian Football League field and includes a single-story with a mezzanine steel frame. Its 35-meter-wide, 11.5-meter tall bifold hangar door allows planes landing at the neighboring airport to taxi directly into the facility. The museum also provides a space to share the stories of Manitoba’s earliest aviators, the birth of commercial aviation in Canada and provides STEM-based interactive experiences for visitors of all ages. 

When a third-party quantity surveyor estimated and verified the project design, it was determined the project would be over budget and therefore faced cancellation. We worked with consultants and trade partners during 18 months of preconstruction to provide substantial cost savings and value engineering options. We drove the process and presented several ideas for consideration, which were shared with the design team and owner representatives.  A comprehensive value engineering/cost savings matrix allowed the owner and consultant to establish design changes required to meet or exceed budget requirements and make the project a reality.
