Finishing two months ahead of schedule, the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center is San Diego County’s newest aquatic facility. The world-class aquatic center provides competition-level amenities to Oceanside residents and local school districts. When the facility isn’t being used to host regional meets, its recreational features offer enjoyment for youth and adults alike.

The project scope included a 56-meter competition pool, an 82-foot instruction/therapy pool, diving boards, a bleacher structure, trellises, an electronic scoreboard and a large splash and play area with various features for children to enjoy.

Ancillary buildings include a 4,900-square-foot multi-purpose room, as well as new locker rooms, administrative offices, meeting rooms, storage space, a snack bar and outdoor recreational areas. The size and layout of the project champions flexibility, inviting a variety of activities for both public and private events with the capacity to host events for up to 1,100 users.

During construction, this high-profile project was highly scrutinized by the California Water Board to ensure the projects’ bio filtration system used to collect stormwater passed all inspections and operated as designed. Collaboration between the design team, owner and PCL was critical to a successful and smooth inspection audit process.

Thanks to outstanding planning efforts, diligence and focus, PCL achieved success for all aspects of the stormwater system. Not only did the project team recommend a solution to the designer to solve an existing condition that prevented the system from operating properly, but the system also successfully passed all inspections.
