HONOLULU, Hawaii (Sept. 3, 2024) – Nordic PCL Construction, Inc., founded in Honolulu in 1938, has earned more industry awards of recognition in a single year than ever before. These 15 accolades highlight the company's commitment to flexible project delivery, rigorous safety standards and their longstanding pledge to giving back to the local communities it serves.

Our success is rooted in results, relationships, and reputation,” said Glen Kaneshige, Nordic PCL president. “These drivers have been fundamental to our growth in delivering exceptional construction services to our clients.”  

The Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters and Pacific Resource Partnership awarded Glen Kaneshige the 2024 Outstanding Union Builder of the Year. He also won this award in 2011 and is the only recipient to win this honor twice, recognized for his work in labor-management relations and industry improvements.

The Kukulu Hale Awards 2024, which celebrates excellence in Hawaii’s commercial construction, recognized Nordic PCL with the following awards:

  1. Contractor of the Year: Honoring Nordic PCL’s nearly nine decades of shaping Hawaii's skyline across various sectors including hospitality, retail, residential and healthcare. Beyond building, giving back to the community is a fundamental value for Nordic PCL. The company actively engages with local charities such as Aloha United Way, Hawaii Foodbank, Habitat for Humanity and more. This is the second time in 12 years that the company has received the Contractor of the Year award which is only given every four years.
  2. New Project Award: Civil Beat Plaza, A four-story, 70,000-square-foot building with retail, office, restaurant spaces and underground parking in Honolulu.
  3. New Project and Green Building Award: Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort in Kailua-Kona, reopened in 2023 with a design that respects the original Pacific Island style and includes modern, sustainable elements.
  4. Renovation Award: The new 10-story Hawaii State Federal Credit Union headquarters located in Honolulu was renovated to emphasize customer service efficiency and employee wellness, featuring ground-floor retail and a five-story parking structure serving the downtown community.

The 2024 AIA Honolulu Design Awards, recognizing architectural design excellence honored Nordic PCL along with the design teams with three awards:

  1. Award of Excellence, The Mayor’s Choice Award, and the Hawai’i Energy Award: Kūlanihākoʻi High School (Institutional) is a new public high school in Kihei, set to accommodate 1,600 students once completed.
  2. Award of Merit: Civil Beat Plaza (Commercial/Industrial)
  3. Award of Merit: Lilia Waikiki (Residential) is a 40,000-square-foot mixed-use tower in Waikiki. It features second-floor retail, an eight-story podium, a ninth-floor amenity level with a pool and a 28-story apartment building with 401 rental units.
  4. Honorable Mention: Hawaii State Federal Credit Union Headquarters (Commercial/Industrial)

At the 2024 General Contractors Association of Hawaii (GCA) Safety Awards, a subset of the National Associated General Contractors (AGC) Safety Awards, Nordic PCL was recognized for their outstanding safety records with two 2024 awards:

  1. Zero Incident Rate for “Building 275,000 square feet and Up”
  2. Zero Incident Rate for “Building 1 to 109,999 square feet in the Federal and Heavy Industrial Markets”

Lastly, at the 2024 General Contractors Association (GCA) Build Hawaii Awards, which honors GCA members who build Hawaii’s most iconic projects across various sectors are recognized annually for the most complex and innovative construction projects. Nordic PCL’s Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, received two awards:

  1. Award of Excellence: Kona Village, a Rosewood Resort (Building Construction – $25 Million and Above)
  2. Grand Award: Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort (The best of the best, selected by judges from all the Award of Excellence recipients across various categories)
