The construction company donates $60,000 to U.S. food banks
Denver, CO (November 23, 2020) – ‘You’re on mute’ may be the phrase of 2020, but for food banks across the U.S. going on mute is not an option. The non-profit organizations remain open and active while facing major obstacles due to COVID-19.
In this past year alone, the percentage of U.S. households struggling with food insecurity has more than doubled. What was once 10.5% in 2019 has escalated to 22.5% this past summer according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Northwestern University’s Institute for Policy Research.
With uncertainty at an all-time high, food banks across the country have experienced spikes in demand, increased food prices and major disruptions to supply chains.
PCL Construction listened to the hardships our communities were facing and stepped in again to support their needs. “Community giving is the core of what we do,” says Deron Brown, president and COO of PCL’s U.S. Operations. “During these difficult times, we are fortunate to be able to give back and support the people struggling in the communities in which we live and work.”
PCL’s U.S. offices are contributing to the following 14 local food banks for a grand total of $60,000 donated over the holiday season:
Bakersfield – Golden Empire Gleaners
Denver – Food Bank of the Rockies
Hawaii – Hawaii Foodbank and Maui Food Bank
Houston – Houston Food Bank
Los Angeles – LA Mission Food Bank
Minneapolis – Second Harvest Heartland
Orange County – Second Harvest Food Bank
Orlando – Second Harvest Food Bank
Phoenix – St. Mary’s Food Bank
San Diego – San Diego Food Bank
Seattle – Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest
Tampa – Feeding Tampa Bay
Over the past 11 years, PCL has donated more than $1.3 million to food banks across the country to help eliminate the uncertainty and worry many experience due to the lack of food. For more information on your local food bank and how to support, please visit https://www.feedingamerica.org/.
