The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts sits in the heart of downtown Toronto and was built specifically for opera and ballet. State-of-the-art acoustics and an orchestra pit that can accommodate more than one hundred musicians enhance these events, providing the audience with an unparalleled entertainment experience.

As the permanent home of the Canadian Opera Company and the preferred venue for The National Ballet of Canada, the 35,716-square-meter centre accommodates just over 2,000 patrons and is designed to allow three productions to be staged alternately in any given season. The traditional four-tiered, horseshoe-shaped auditorium is lined with resonant wood and plaster, and every seat is positioned for optimal sightlines, providing exceptional intimacy between the audience and the stage.

The centre includes a four-story main reception area, a generous rehearsal room, a ballet studio, a box office entrance and back-of-house areas such as dressing rooms and wardrobe and instrument storage rooms. The list of additional amenities is equally impressive: 103 washrooms, direct access to the subway, designated wheelchair sitting, ample parking and more. The centre is also home to several lounges, where patrons can relax and just enjoy the atmosphere.

PCL is honoured to have served as construction manager, full service general contractor and collaborating client partner in the creation of this iconic multi-award-winning building. Notably, this project received the 2008 International Architecture Award - Best New Global Design; the 2006 TCA Project Achievement Award - Large Project Category; the Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence; and the 2007 Wood Design Award, to name a few.
