Columbia Icefield Skywalk
Stepping Above and Beyond
The Columbia Icefield Skywalk is a split-path walkway that overlooks the Sunwapta Valley in Alberta’s Jasper National Park. The award-winning design features a cantilevered trapezoidal box girder structure and an innovative curved, cable-supported glass-floored viewing platform. Drilled tension rock anchors and compression micropiles extending into the rock anchor the concrete footings.
The team was committed to helping Brewster Travel create a world-class destination experience and overcame design and construction challenges that included doing detailed blasting and rock excavation work on a cliff edge. With stringent environmental requirements in place for the project, the team worked closely with Parks Canada to ensure environmental stewardship was always a top priority.
